Beyond the sequins, beyond the Brylcreem, beyond the smiles and seduction, there is fierce determination, rigorous training, emotional anguish and obsession with the dance.

A decade ago, Slavik took the World Latin Dance title with his partner and lover Joanna. But despite his addiction to the limelight and the dance, Slavik's career sputtered at its peak while Joanna went on to repeated, unrivalled glory with her new partner.

Now, with his new girlfriend and dance partner Anna, Slavik is banking everything on his final comeback to the world of professional ballroom dancing. But can amateur dance champ Anna be his salvation either on or off the dancefloor? And can Slavik control the steely ambition and volatile temperament that made him into a dance star?

Ballroom Dancer is an intimate portrait of elite dancers and a gripping, tragic love story, exquisitely told through training sessions, hotel rooms and on the dancefloor. Plus, the costumes are fabulous.

After the film we'll be joined for a Q&A with Kele Baker.

Kele Baker is the Argentine Tango choreographer for BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing, and has choreographed and staged dances for numerous television and theatrical productions, including Steven Poliakoff's Joe's Palace (BBC), Deborah Bull's Travels With My Tutu and The Dancer's Body (BBC), Latin Fever (Sadlers Wells), Dance Seduction (Erotica, Kensington Olympia) and No Way Out (Southwark Playhouse). Kele has appeared as master teacher on programmes for BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Living TV, and is currently choreographing for BAFTA award-winning actor Darren Boyd's episode of Little Crackers, to be broadcast on Sky1 later this month.
