THE CONFESSIONS OF THOMAS QUICK + Q&A

Q&A with Brian Hill
Dir: Brian Hill
United Kingdom / Sweden / 2015 / 90mins

This week we're celebrating one of the most experimental, form pushing director's in the country with a retrospective at Bertha DocHouse. We kick off with Brian Hill's latest film, a real-life noir thriller which uncovers the truth behind Sweden’s most notorious serial killer, Thomas Quick.

Held for decades in a psychiatric institute, Quick openly confessed to the murders of thirty nine people. In a country with a low crime rate, the nation watched in awe as his confessions mounted, accounting for many of the country's unsolved murders. Quick became a national sensation; Sweden’s poster boy for unspeakable horrors and the number one patient at Sater Psychiatric Hospital, until one day he just stopped talking. Something happened.

With full access to new evidence and testimony from the man himself, we are taken on a chilling journey into the motivations of a self-confessed killer and a mental health system that may not be all that it seems. What appears at first to be a singular tale of unimaginable evil evolves into something far more delicate and deeply disturbing.

The screening will be followed by an extended conversation with Brian Hill featuring clips from his career. This special event kicks off our Brian Hill Retrospective, more details to be announced soon.
