PEGGY GUGGENHEIM - ART ADDICT

Dir: Lisa Immordino Vreeland
United States / Italy / United Kingdom / 2015 / 96mins

A rare look into the legendary collector’s world: blending the abstract, the colourful, the surreal and the salacious to portray a life that was as complex and unpredictable as the artwork Peggy revered, and the artists she pushed forward.

Lisa Immordino Vreeland follows up her acclaimed debut Diana Vreeland: The Eye has to Travel with this fascinating look at the life of Peggy Guggenheim. An art collector who was not only ahead of her time but helped to define it, becoming a central figure in the modern art movement. As she moved through the cultural upheaval of the 20th century, she collected not only art, but artists. Her wild personal history included such figures as Samuel Beckett, Max Ernst, Jackson Pollock, Alexander Calder, Marcel Duchamp as well as countless others. While fighting through personal tragedy, she maintained her vision to build one of the most important collections of modern art, now enshrined in her Venetian palazzo. Making use of a wealth of archive material as well as unheard audio tapes, Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict is a thrilling, eye opening documentary.
