One World Media presents Fresh Eyes on the World – a screening of short documentary films by emerging talent, in partnership with Bertha DocHouse.
Join us for a showcase of new work from One World Media’s 2017 grantees. We will be screening a series of untold stories from the wider world produced and directed by young talent who received a One World Media Production Fund grant. These eye-opening stories will introduce you to people around the world that highlight our common humanity. Stories range from exploring the increasing popularity of K-Pop among young Iraqis, to transgender Muslims working at a boarding school in Indonesia. Short documentaries feature women in post-conflict Tripoli, Lebanon, using recycling to bring together the Alawite and Sunni communities, native Burmese soldiers who fought for and alongside the British Army during WW2, and Sudanese inventors taking on desertification in a TV competition.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film directors who will share their experiences of gaining a foothold in documentary filmmaking and answer any question about the challenges of solo-shooting in far off lands.
One World Media is a non-profit organisation which supports international journalism and promotes media coverage of global issues. For 30 years they have been working with partners in the UK and internationally to enable media that informs and connects the world’s people. Their Production Fund encourages young filmmakers to think big and globally by funding new stories from and about the developing world. Their annual awards celebrate the best media coverage of the wider world and they run events to connect new talent to the industry’s decision-makers.
All attendees are invited for networking drinks after the screening where the One World Media team will be on hand to talk to anyone interested in applying to their Production Fund.
